Digital Photography
Digital cameras are more accessible than ever! Almost every phone has a camera, but not everyone knows how to use it. Students in this class are learning how to effectively use a camera, whether it is a separate camera or a camera on their phone. Students learn how to properly frame a shot, and how to digitally alter a photo using digital programs like Adobe Photoshop.
Graphic Design
In graphic design students use the knowledge gained from their visual arts classes to create printed pieces. Using the computer and Adobe creative suite programs like Illustrator, and Photoshop, students focus on incorporating the elements and principles of design in their digital work.
Coding
Does your student love video games? Why not learn how to make them! Coding is the language used to create computer programs and apps. Learning coding isn't just for students interested in creating video games. Skills used in coding help students improve problem solving skills and creative problem solving.
Video Editing
Video editing is becoming easier and easier with the help of some phone apps. This year, students will be able to use Adobe Premiere to begin learning the fundamentals of video editing. Students will learn about transitions, shot framing, and story telling through video.
Interactive Presentations
Though out the year, students will have the opportunity to experiment with several different presentation software programs beyond PowerPoint. Students will learn how to use online tools such as Prezi, Powtoon, and Piktochart.
At Roosevelt we believe that one of the best ways to teach students social and emotional skills is through the Arts!Social & emotional learning is comprised of five core competencies: self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision making. Many students today are lacking skills in these core competencies, so a key part in educating the "whole child" is developing these social emotional skills.
